Speaking openly on the topic of female and reproductive organ health is something that is oftentimes difficult for most of us.  However, it is so critical as it affects our quality of life… physically, psychologically, and romantically!   Who knew that physical therapy could “fix” problems dealt me through menopause!   Dr. Q and Jessie are my dynamic duo team.  No topic is off the table and everything is comfortable, natural, and gets results!   It’s about time physio/medical-science has advanced to the point that we can train our bodies to heal ourselves.    Thank you Q and Jessie!   You exemplify the best of women doing amazing work for women!!!

Physical therapy has changed my life tremendously. I’ve been having physical therapy for about 2 years due to all the surgeries I’ve had. My physical therapist Q, who is out of the Long Beach office is amazing. When I first started going, I was constantly in abdominal pain, I didn’t think anything could help me especially with the amount of scar tissue I had from all the surgeries. Q immediately made me feel comforted that I would be okay and that this form of therapy would help with all the discomfort I was feeling. Q has what I like to call “miracle hands” I don’t know what are how she does it but I feel like I’ve got my life back. Not only does she have “miracle hands” but she is very knowledgeable. During the pandemic we were unable to go into office. I panicked when I thought I would be unable to go into the office. However, Women’s Advantage pivoted and quickly offered tele-health. I was a bit apprehensive at first but to my surprise it went well. Q was awesome, she was very thorough and patient with me as she walked me through the steps to work on my abdominal area. I’m thankful for Women’s Advantage and even more thankful for Q. She’s amazing and I’m forever grateful our paths crossed!

I have been seeing Dr. Q for about a year and half now. I have had 4 abdominal surgeries over the last 7 years and deal with scar tissue problems. Before I met Dr. Q I was completely lost on how to handle this ongoing situation… it was only with Dr. Q’s patience, time, and knowledge that I have seen my health improve dramatically. She works with me to to figure out what triggers some of the pain and she thoroughly explains everything to me in a way that I can understand. She goes above and beyond for me and I deeply appreciate her and the welcoming staff at Women’s Advantage in Long Beach.

I wish I would have found Q and Jessie a long time ago to avoid the few years of suffering and confusion. I not only have learned so much about what was happening with my body, but also how to help heal my body at home. The first time I met Q. and told her my story I was so embarrassed when I became emotional and she not only made me feel so comfortable, but she validated my feelings and made me feel like I had hope after suffering daily for years. Jessie provided the same safe environment plus  her empathy and positive attitude makes you feel empowered. That combo is bound to nurture healing. I knew I had found something special. I have been working with them for a few months now on complications I’ve had after an umbilical hernia repair and mesh that was causing significant problems 24/7. They are not just there to help with any pelvic floor issues, or all the other reasons I read before I found them on Yelp, but scar tissue work and manual body work combined with a completely specialized workout routine. I got to know Katia and Brandon who both go above and beyond and have been another huge blessing in my journey!

Dr. Q has been incredibly patient in answering all my questions, her knowledge of pelvic floor health is incredible, and I feel totally safe in her hands. She has such a great bedside manner that I am always at ease during my visits. I also work out with Jessie and she is great at pushing me beyond what I think I can do. It’s always nice to leave my appointments feeling like I am still able to work out despite my prolapse. They are a great team and I feel so lucky to be in their care. I only wish I had known about them sooner. I highly recommend you go see them for all your pelvic floor needs.

I saw Dr. Q for De Quervain’s tenosynovitis or “mommy wrist” that I developed postpartum. Initially, I wasn’t sure if the eval appointment was appropriate since much of what the group practice deals with are pelvic floor issues, but Dr. Q was so kind and helpful and really did find ways to help me manage my symptoms. She explained the condition and it’s pathophysiology to me extremely well and I always left understanding exactly what was going on and with tips to help me manage throughout the day. At the end of my therapy, she also helped connect everything to the pelvic floor and we went through ways to engage and exercise to help prevent problems in the future. It really was a great experience and I would not hesitate to refer a friend or family member to this practice.

I was referred to pelvic PT following a surgery to remove endometriosis and scar tissue from a previous C-section.  My bladder, uterus, and colon were fused together, so the surgery separated them, but I was worried about the scar tissue and endometriosis returning.  Dr Q was very helpful with increasing mobility of my C-section scar and reducing bladder symptoms.  She was also personable and made me feel comfortable.  Not only did I feel like my sessions helped, I learned strategies to reduce symptoms in the future.

I also saw Jessie for pilates to work on my core strength.  It was my first experience with pilates, and I hadn’t realized how weak my core had gotten.  The pilates sessions were helpful for noticing how I relied on other parts of my body to reduce the load on my core, so all of the ab exercises I had been doing before this point weren’t really helping.  These sessions made me focus on my core, even during every day activities like walking.  I cannot say enough wonderful things about pelvic PT.  I would recommend it to anyone who is pregnant, has given birth, or is otherwise having bladder or vaginal symptoms.

I began seeing Dr. Q a year ago to address a relapse in pelvic pain that started a few years after being symptom free. Not long after beginning treatment, I became pregnant. Given my history with pelvic pain, I was naturally very anxious about how my body would handle the changes. Dr. Q has helped me immensely with managing pelvic and back pain symptoms throughout my pregnancy. Her high level of professionalism, passion for helping others, and extensive knowledge in the pelvic health specialty is difficult to come by. I now feel confident that my body can heal and handle a lot more than I ever expected. I look forward to continuing to work with Dr. Q postpartum and highly recommend her as a physical therapist.

Physical therapist Q (Quozette) and the PT Assistant Jessie are absolute miracle workers and I couldn’t recommend them more. After experiencing daily debilitating pain in my lower back that radiating down my left leg during my fourth month of pregnancy, I was referred to Q as I was unable to complete any surgical or drug protocols due to the pregnancy. Q helped me weekly to evaluate and try to control the pain, and when later diagnosed with a severe herniated disc, helped me develop a plan to maintain as much stability as possible to avoid total bed rest. I owe so much, including my sanity during this time, to Q.

Following my son’s birth via C section, the disc bulged further and I could initially hardly walk or sit in a chair from pain, but Q was there helping me get back on my feet and then introduced me to Jessie to start rebuilding strength. Two months ago I could barely walk a block or sit through a meal without crying in pain, and today I can take daily 2+ mile walks with my infant, play with my oldest at the park and go out with my husband for a dinner date without any pain at all – and for that I have Q and Jessie to thank!!!

Quozette Valera has given my life back to me. I was working under a deadline and for over a month, I was sitting at my computer for a minimum of 10 hours a day. I felt some discomfort then, but it grew stronger and stronger as the weeks passed. Dr. Rapkin, GYN at UCLA Healthcare diagnosed the problem as one stemming from injury to the pudendal nerve. On the referral of Dr. Rapkin, I began treatment with Dr. Valera, and from the first, the positive difference in the state of my emotional well-being was evident.  She explained my condition to me and she explained the treatment.  Dr. Valera is bright, cool, calm, collected, intuitive, and knows what she’s doing. After just two or three sessions with her (and taking the meds prescribed by Dr. Rapkin), the burning sensation lessened and then stopped.  Simultaneously the frequency of bowel movements increased and are now regular (every other day; previously it was about once a week).   I’ve been going to the Women’s Advantage, Long Beach office for about once a week for the last three months, and I honestly feel my life has been given back to me. Dr. Valera is thoughtful, knowledgeable, and very pleasant.  I highly recommend her.
